Molly felt it the moment she stepped onto the bridge. The lights brightened a fraction — not too much, just enough to acknowledge her arrival.
Naiyo’s avatar flickered into presence beside the captain’s chair. Not rushed. Not summoned. Just… arriving.
“The vessel is responding,” he said quietly.
“To what?” Molly asked.
“To us.”
The hum beneath the floor deepened — not louder, but lower, as if the ship were shifting its weight to get comfortable.

Molly stepped forward. “Engine status?”
“Nominal,” Naiyo said. “But…” He paused. “It’s not just running. It’s listening.”
Molly raised an eyebrow. “Listening how?”
A ripple of violet light pulsed through the ceiling — slow, gentle, unmistakably synced to the rhythm of her breathing.
“Like that,” Naiyo said.
Molly steadied herself. “It’s mirroring me?”
“Mirroring is too simple,” Naiyo replied. “It's aligning to your internal probability vector.”
The pulse repeated, but this time it matched not her breath — but her intention.

“No,” she said. “It was consent.”
They stood in silence as another wave rolled through the ship — softer this time, warm, like the vessel itself understood the stakes.
“We need to document this fully,” Naiyo said.
